12 May Mobile apps to keep you entertained in lockdown
Whilst in lock down, we’ve all come to notice just how much we need to stay connected with our family and friends and these mobile apps will help achieve that. If you’re super bored, we’ve also got a few recommendations for you. With each of these apps, you’ll be able to stay entertained for hours or connect with your friends.
Stay Connected
Without a doubt, the hardest part of being in quarantine is being unable to see your friends and family. Due to the fact we aren’t allowed to meet anyone outside our household, people have been forced to find a different means of staying connected.
The most popular mobile app for staying connected at the moment is Zoom. This is a video call app that allows you to call multiple people at the same time in one chat room. You can share screens, making it the perfect addition to a Friday pub quiz night. Zoom allows you to have fun with your loved ones from the safety of your house. A great way to spice up the quiz nights is to do a theme. You can all agree to come as a character from a certain film or era.
An app that’s popular among younger audiences is Houseparty. With this application, you can connect with up to 8 people in a room at once. You can video call and play games with those in the room. Whilst there are less than 8 people on your call, anyone you’re friends with can join. If you want to stop this from happening, you can lock the room. This way, no one will be able to enter until the room is unlocked.
Sticking with a classic, WhatsApp is brilliant if you want to stay connected. Using WhatsApp, you can connect with your contacts through messages, calls or video calls. This is a great option for every kind of smartphone and is completely free. You’ll be able to stay in contact for hours on end.
Mobile Apps for Streaming
Of course, you’re not going to want to sit on calls to your friends and family every second of the day. To keep you busy in between these moments, we’ve found some of the best streaming platforms. You’ll be able to find a whole variety of films or shows across them.
If you’re a horror fanatic, you’re going to want to pay attention to this one. A relatively new app to hit the market is Shudder. This mobile app is filled with the best horrors and thrillers. Shudder is the largest platform for films of this kind and is very quickly growing. You can find classics, such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or try out the newest horror series. Of course, there is a subscription needed, priced at £4.99 a month. You will get a 7 day trial period so you can test it out first.
After plenty of build up and excitement surrounding it, we have to include Disney+ in here. Just as you would expect, you’ll be able to find all Disney films on this platform. These include the original princess films, classics, such as Monsters Inc, and all the newer films. Whilst you’re stuck at home, it’s a great idea to relive your childhood.
Finally, if you haven’t already joined the platform, Netflix is going to save your boredom. Netflix is one of the biggest streaming services in the world and contains hundreds of different series and films. They’re so big that they also have a number of their very own titles! The best thing about this streaming platform is you get a number of accounts for only £9.99 each month!
Online Games
As we’re all stuck at home, we’re looking for different ways to keep us busy and online games are a great way of doing that! Even better, online games you can play with your friends through mobile apps. There are hundreds so it’s always a great idea to continue digging to find the best ones!
Evil Apples has been one of our favourites for quite some time now. This is essentially an online version of Cards Against Humanity. The aim of the game is to collect the most points by laying the funniest card. Each round, a judge will be selected by the game. This judge will have a card with a missing phrase. Each player must then fill in the black with their funniest option. At the end, the judge will choose their favourite answer and the game moves on.
Throwing it back to the DS days, Mario Kart Tour is perfect to play with your friends. Nintendo released a mobile version, allowing you to connect with people all over the world. You can also choose to connect with just your friends. If you have never played Mario Kart, the aim of the game is to win the races. There are a number of different tracks that allow you to live completely different experiences. You can play as all the original characters whilst testing out some newer vehicles.
The final online mobile app we’re going to share with you is Kahoot. This was originally something that was used in schools to engage learning but was quickly swarmed with friendship groups looking to have home quiz nights. If you want to build the perfect quiz night, this is what you want to download. Your friends will be able to join your quiz using a specific code from their mobile phones. Each question will come with 4 multiple choice answers, each matching a different colour and shape. The players can then select the answer from their phones. After all the questions are answered, the leader board is shown on screen.
All of these mobile apps will be able to stamp out any boredom you’re experiencing during lockdown. By collecting the best lockdown apps all in one place, you can find your next burst of excitement in one place.
