31 Mar Mobile Industry Awards 2020
With everything going on in the world, there have been many changes to the Mobile Industry Awards and we’ve compiled them in one place. Following government guidelines, many events have had to be rescheduled, even cancelled in some cases. To avoid late cancellation of the MIA event, changes have been made now,
What is the Mobile Industry Awards?
The Mobile Industry Awards is one of the biggest events to be held in the tech world and everyone wants to be on the shortlist. They have a number of different categories for which companies, people or brands receive nominations and awards for.
Each year, they hold a number of different events such as Power 50 and Shop Idol. Power 50 takes a look at some of the most influential people in the mobile industry. They then present one of these 50 people with the ‘Person of the Year’ award. Shop Idol takes a look over the mobile retail industry in hopes of finding the best salesperson. There’s a whole competition with the finalists heading to the award ceremony with the announcement pending.
Some of the categories include Best Network for Data, Best Online Retailer and Hottest New Phone 2020. Each year, companies work on hitting these titles.
When are the awards?
This year, the Mobile Industry Awards have had to be pushed back to September 25th. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, many events have been postponed or cancelled. To avoid the disappointment of many, MIA have chosen to postpone their event to hopefully, tide in with the downfall of the virus. The event usually occurs in or around June each month.
Another thing that has been changed is the time of the event. This is usually something that starts in the afternoon and runs into the evening. Instead, the event will now starts at 12:30PM and end by 9PM
How do they work?
Each portion of the Mobile Industry Awards event works slightly differently. From Shop Idol to Power 50 and the final event, each has a different system.
Shop Idol consists of each salesperson putting themselves forward for the nomination. They need to provide a short statement as to why they think they’re best for the winning title. There’s then a Big Vote in which each contestant is put against each other in order to get the most votes. This narrows down the contestants, who then go through to the mystery shopper portion of the contest. Each level relies on the participants to come above the others.
Power 50 is the event in which 50 of the most influential individuals get to fight for the top spot. To get on the Power 50 list, you need to be bold with their ways and ideas. The main objection is to stand out against everyone else and be the best.
For the overall rewards, a shortlist is gathered and will be released on 30th April. This will show all the names up for each of the available categories.
Where are they held?
The Mobile Industry Awards 2020 will be held at the Royal Lancaster. This is a luxurious hotel in London with the perfect fine dining setting. This is the same place that the award show was held last year.
Make sure you keep an eye on the Mobile Industry Awards website as this year’s shortlist will be revealed on 30th April. Finger’s crossed!
